June 2, 2016, was the 1000th broadcast of Galactic Travels. To celebrate, Robert Rich's landmark eight hour recording Perpetual - A Somnium Continuum was featured. The first six hours were played in a marathon broadcast on June 2nd. On the next Galactic Travels, the remaining two hours will be presented.
Perpetual is the eight hour follow up to the epic recording Somnium. As far as it is known, Somnium has received only one complete play on the radio and that was on Galactic Travels #211, broadcast on April 5, 2001.
Famous for his legendary Sleep Concerts, Robert Rich created both Somnium and Perpetual in the same vein. The idea is to let the music incorporate itself into your perceptual framework during the night, to create a sonic surround, an environment for unique states of consciousness.
The latest show's playlist (June 9 - show #1001) is available for your inspection. Galactic Travels is rebroadcast four times weekly on Modul303, "early & modern electronic music."
