Michael Drabenstott returns with our monthly feature exploring the Lehigh Valley's culinary scene. This month, Michael looks at two Lehigh Valley breweries and and one business in the Allentown Fairgrounds Farmer's Market.

First, Michael speaks with Weyerbacher Brewing Company brewmaster Chris Wilson discusses his brewery's rise from a livery stable in downtown Easton to the current 30,000 square foot facility he calls home. Drabenstott also speaks with beer historian and award-winning brewer Chris Bowen who was just named the new head brewer at Fegley's Brew Works in Bethlehem.

Lehigh Valley Beer Week 2018 on LV Arts Salon

Chris Bowen, president of Lehigh Valley Beer Week, and Chris Wilson, Brewmaster at Weyerbacher Brewing Company, previewed Lehigh Valley Beer Week 2018 beginning this Saturday, Feb. 17-24. This year's Lehigh Valley Beer Week brings beer-centric events to bars, breweries, distributors, and restaurants across the Lehigh Valley.

The annual event, which is in its sixth year in 2018, celebrates not only beer, but also Lehigh Valley beer and the close-knit community that it fosters.

This discussion centered on "Crustless PB&J on Wheat," the witbier that was selected as the winning brew at WDIY's 2nd Annual Homebrew Fest in July. Host Bill Dautremont-Smith talked with the winning homebrewer John Litak as well as the staff at Bonn Place Brewing where the winning brew has just been produced on a commercial scale, owner/brewmaster Sam Masotto and assistant brewer Ryan Kelly. 

WDIY's Shamus McGroggan speaks with Gerard Longo, the PR & Marketing Coordinator  for PBS39, about the Lehigh Valley PBS TV station's annual BrewFest fundraiser which is in its sixth year. The fourth annual Lehigh Valley Beer Week begins on February 20. Host Bill Dautremont-Smith talks with Lehigh Valley Beer Week's new president, Scott Adams, homebrewer Dave Bennett, whose winning brew became this year's festival signature beer LVBW4, and Tara Perruso , manager of Weyerbacher's Tap Room, one of the many participating venues around the Lehigh Valley.

Coca-Cola Park in Allentown welcomed over 30 brewers to the annual Brewfest on Saturday. Attendees enjoyed a wide array of beers, live music, food, and a chance to pick up some memorabilia. A judges panel including WDIY Development Director Rebecca Walz handed out awards for the best brews. Winners included Lehigh Valley-based HiJinx Brewing Company, Hershey-based Tröegs Brewing Company, and Downington-based Victory Brewing Company.
