The PA Blues Festival began its third year at Blue Mountain Ski resort on Friday night with a Lehigh Valley PA Blues Showcase featuring a line-up of local favorites presented by WDIY.  The festival featured national acts Saturday and Sunday at an outdoor stage and under cover in the tent stage.  The tent provided shelter from the hot sun on Saturday.  With some early morning rain and an 80% chance of rain, Sunday appeared to be a washout, but the gospel start on Sunday by Alexis P.

Photos: PBS39 3rd Annual Microbrew Festival

Coca-Cola Park in Allentown welcomed over 30 brewers to the annual Brewfest on Saturday. Attendees enjoyed a wide array of beers, live music, food, and a chance to pick up some memorabilia. A judges panel including WDIY Development Director Rebecca Walz handed out awards for the best brews. Winners included Lehigh Valley-based HiJinx Brewing Company, Hershey-based Tröegs Brewing Company, and Downington-based Victory Brewing Company.

Bethlehem Farmers' Market

Heritage Farm

Fresh produce, baked goods, and a locally grown good time.  The Bethlehem Farmers' Market at Campus Square is now open.  Located on Lehigh University at the crossroads of New and Morton Streets, the farmers' market will be open each Thursday from 11am to 3pm. 

Live musical performances will be featured every other Thursday.  Past favorites like Billy Bauer and Dave Fry will join new additions to the line up like Mike Halliday, Karen and Amy Jones, and “Not for Coltrane.”

Photos: Blues, Brews & Barbecue 2013

The Blues, Brews & Barbecue festival is quickly becoming an early summer tradition in the Lehigh Valley. The annual summer event returned to Allentown last weekend marking the sixth appearance of the festival which debuted in 2008. Vendors lined the 800 block of Hamilton Street while 8 bands played throughout the day on Saturday including WDIY favorites the B.C. Combo and the Alexis P. Suter Band.

SouthSide Film Festival organizers give their top picks for this year's festival

The SouthSide Film Festival will once again return to Bethlehem next week for its tenth year. Between the main festival's three locations and the Children's Film Series taking place at Godfrey Daniels, over 100 films will be screened over five days. Everything from animated shorts to documentaries to late-night horror comedies will be on display as the Lehigh Valley's only consecutively-running film festival continues to grow.
