At the Movies: Wonder

“Wonder” is a wonderful film that is not presented as an anti-bullying film per se. “Wonder” is about August “Auggie” Pullman, born with mandibulofacial dystosis, known as Treacher Collins Syndrome.

Stephen Chbosky (director, screenwriter, author, “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”; screenwriter, “Beauty and the Beast”) directs “Wonder” from a screenplay he co-wrote with Steven Conrad (screenwriter, “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” “The Pursuit of Happyness”) and Jack Thorne (screenwriter, “War Book”) based on the novel by R.J. Palacio.

Murder on the Orient Express boasts a bravura turn as Hercule Poirot by Kenneth Branagh, who directs the star-studded extravaganza that is a remake of the 1974 movie directed by Sidney Lumet and is also based on the 1934 novel by Agatha Christie.

Along for the ride in the 2017 version, in addition to Branagh, are Penélope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Judi Dench, Johnny Depp, Josh Gad, Derek Jacobi, Leslie Odom Jr., Michelle Pfeiffer, and Daisy Ridley. Paul Willistein of the Lehigh Valley Press reviews the Crime-Mystery film.
