Mountain Stage
Todd Burge.

West Virginia singer-songwriter Todd Burge appears on this episode of Mountain Stage, recorded live on the campus of West Virginia University in Morgantown. Drawing on his peculiar wit and nimble guitar playing, Burge is one West Virginia's most respected musicians.

Beginning in the late '80s and continuing through the '90s, Burge was one of the most important figures in the Morgantown music scene, fronting everything from the alt-rock band 63 Eyes to the outlaw-country cover project Triple Shot. Since the early 2000s, Burge has concentrated on his own peculiar brand of folk-pop, working extensively with artists like Tim O'Brien and Don Dixon.

Burge is joined for this set by the Mountain Stage band, along with guitarist Billy Matheny. Matheny (who also plays keyboards with the Ohio folk-rock group Southeast Engine) is a fellow veteran of the Morgantown scene, having worked with hometown bands Cheap Truckers' Speed and The Phantom Six.

This Mountain Stage performance originally aired on September 21, 2012.
