Lynn Reuhlmann: Not Howard

Lynn Reuhlmann

The Lehigh Valley Storytelling Guild has moved its festival, StoryFUSION 2014, to the month of September. It will still be at Northampton Community College, this year starting on the Friday, September 19th to Sunday the 21st. A children’s show, workshops, open mics, and performances make up the festivities. Our feature tellers are Jennings and Ponder, wonderful husband and wife tandem tellers of traditional stories. I will tell you more about them on this show in September. Until then, over the next four months, I want to feature the Guild tellers who will also be on the same stage.

First up is Lynn Ruehlmann, our most distance member, hailing from Virginia. Coming out of a theater background, Lynn is now recognized by Virginia Commission for the Arts, receiving from them numerous grants for her storytelling programs. She is an educator as well as a fine storyteller.

She is known for her personal and historical stories. Here is one of Lynn Ruehlmann’s personal stories called, Not Howard.

That was Guild member, Lynn Ruehlmann. She will be telling at the Friday night olio during our StoryFUSION Festival in September.

Among the other tellers that evening will be the winner of the Pennsylvania Youth Storytelling Showcase, Sasha Cheer, a Moravian Academy student and resident of Allentown. The Pennsylvania Youth Storytelling Showcase is a production of the Lehigh Valley Storytelling Guild for the purpose of encouraging students to tell stories, and, hopefully, go on to participate in the National Youth Storytelling Showcase, which takes place way out in Utah. We hope Sasha will be a part of that competition. Our congratulations to Sasha Cheer.

The Lehigh Valley Storytelling Guild holds its Storytelling Circle at Godfrey Daniels at 7 East 4th Street in Bethlehem on the second Wednesdays of the month at 7:30 pm (except the month of August). Come and listen to stories or try out a story yourself. We are a friendly audience and the event is free.

Well, that’s all for now. Have fun and keep a story in our heart.
