Mountain Stage

Ever since shortly after her famed performance at the 1959 Newport Folk Festival, Joan Baez has been an internationally known star, famous for classic albums and a career marked by social and political activism.

As host Larry Groce said in his original introduction to this set — recorded in April 2003 — "I wish I could be the first to introduce you to her, but I'm pretty sure I'm not." Backed by her band, Baez opens her set with Woody Guthrie's "Pretty Boy Floyd," which was not heard during the radio broadcast, and also performs songs written by Steve Earle, Greg Brown and Natalie Merchant.

  • "Pretty Boy Floyd"
