Hosts Paul Willistein and George VanDoren welcome the three first-place winners in the Eighth Annual Poetry Project; a collaboration between The Press newspapers and WDIY. Each student poet will have a chance to read their winning poem, and discuss the inspiration for their work. WDIY began its new monthly feature “Community Bands of the Lehigh Valley” this morning as part of its WDIY Classics program. The monthly program will air at 11am on the last Monday of the month for the next year, culminating with the Concert Bands International Convention happening at Miller Symphony Hall in March, 2014.
Co-hosts John Pearce and Ray Schwab welcome guest Dr. Daniel Wilson, Professor of History at Muhlenberg College. The topic: studying the history of medicine. Dr. Wilson, a polio survivor, has written three books on polio epidemics.
The Special Focus for May is Radio Massacre International, comprised of Steve Dinsdale (Keyboards, Electronics, Drums), Duncan Goddard (Keyboards, Electronics, Bass), and Gary Houghton (Guitar, Keyboards). Since 1993 they have been building a catalog of epic electronic improvisations. They are veterans of TV, radio, and concert performances all over the UK, Europe, and the US.
