September 26th -The Chamber Music Society of Bethlehem presents an additional special in their Concerts at Muhlenberg, the renown Arianna String Quartet.  Hailed for their outstanding musicianship, the Arianna String Quartet has firmly established itself as one America's finest chamber ensembles.  The concert will feature the following works:

  • Dvořák: String Quartet No. 10 in E-flat Major, Op. 51
  • Shostakovich: String Quartet No. 7 in F-sharp minor, Op. 108
  • Schubert: String Quartet No. 14 in D minor, D. 810 (Death and the Maiden)

September 19th - 27th Annual Lyons Fiddle Festival at Lyons Community Park, Park Avenue, Lyons PA 10AM to 5PM Annual Fiddle Festival with continuous entertainment, PA Dutch Home Cookin featuring iron kettle soups, pig roast, arts and crafts area, jamming area, Gospel Bluegrass Service, antique display, fiddle contest The Lyons Fiddle Festival is looking for entertainment, especially one Cajun style group. The festival features fiddle music of all types including old-timey, bluegrass, Celtic, country, etc. 

October 1-2nd (Friday-Saturday) - The 7th Annual Nutmeg Dulcimer Festival will be held at the same wonderful location: Mary Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church, on the Green in Milford, CT.  Featured Performers will be Aaron O'Rourke - Mountain Dulcimer, Maggie Sansone - Hammered Dulcimer and Ken Bloom - Bowed Dulcimer.  Workshops presented by our Featured Performers and by the following : Hammered Dulcimer:  Cliff Cole, Marya Katz, Barb Levine, Jody Marshall. There is a NEW Folk Society in the area, the Quakertown Area Dulcimer and Autoharp Society (QUADAS).  Their musical focus is on hammered dulcimers, mountain dulcimers and autoharps, playing a variety of old time and Celtic music. The group is open to all players, beginner to advanced. Bucks County Folk Song Society holds its regular monthly meetings at Wrightstown Friends Meetinghouse, Rte 413 (Durham Rd.)
Wrightstown, PA. Meetings are normally held on the first Sunday of every month, but occasionally switch to the second Sunday when the first is on a holiday weekend. About 1-1/2 Hours for Munching, Jamming, and Schmoozing. The festivities begin around 6:30 and end promptly at 10:00pm.

City of Bethlehem Bagpipe Band. The Bethlehem Bagpipe Band is a street band that is located in Bethlehem, Pa. Currently, we have over 25 playing and several non-playing members, that range in age from 12 to 50+. We are always seeking out new members.   Youth Media Calendar    

Wednesday through Sunday until September 5th - A 40 minute mule drawn canal boat ride on the Lehigh Canal will continue to Wednesday through Sunday until September 5th , from 1-4pm at Hugh Moore Historical Park, 30 Centre Square, Easton. There is a fee, Admission to the Emrick Technology Center and the exhibits on Lehigh Valley industry included. For more information, 610-515-8000.

Through October - Ride the Delaware River Railroad Excursions from Phillipsburg every Saturdays and Sundays at 11am, 12:30, 2, and 3:30 pm during the summer and on special dates during the fall and winter. Don't miss this exciting trip along the Old Bel-Del. The train ride will ride along the Delaware River and an optional stop at an old mine for gem panning. A fee applies. Beginning in September - The Pocono Equestrian Center announces The Walter Farley Black Stallion Literacy Foundation program will begin in September at J-n-L Pocono Stables in Moscow, PA.  1st and 2nd graders will receive two books in this program. September 3rd - The Institute for Jewish-Christian Understanding of Muhlenberg College will host a First Friday Luncheon Discussion in the college’s Seegers Union rooms 111-112 from noon-1 PM.  The first discussion will be held Friday September 3rd and is entitled South India: A Melting Pot of Flavors and Faith presented by Dr. Clif Kussmaul Associate Professor of Computer Science at Muhlenberg.  The program is free and open to the public.

September 11th - All residents, neighbors, and friends are invited to celebrate the Lehigh Valley Community Day hosted by Access Services on Saturday September 11th from 10 AM to 7 PM.  The event is free to attend, handicapped accessible, and will be held rain or shine.  The event will be held at the Bethlehem Township Community Center located at 2900 Farmersville Road in Bethlehem.   Proceeds from event will benefit Access Services "Project Oasis" which supports Lehigh Valley families and caregivers of children and adults with developmental disabilities, emotional and other mental health challenges by providing affordable respite services. 

September 12th - Volunteers are needed for the Lehigh Valley Health Network Marathon for Via on September 12th.  You can cheer on runners, keep them hydrated and on course.  Groups are welcome!  More information is on their website.

September 12th -There will be a basket bingo to benefit Jenn's House on Sunday September 12th at the Copeechan Fish and Game Club located in Schnecksville.  Doors open at 12 noon and Bingo begins at 1 PM. For information please call 610-767-9519.

September 15th - Gene Baur, President and Co-Founder of the Farm Sanctuary, will be speaking about his book Farm Sanctuary: Changing Hearts and Minds about Animals and Food on Wednesday September 15th  at 7 PM at Kutztown University.  The event is being sponsored by the Vegetarian Education Group and is free and open to the public.  The lecture will be held in Academic Forum 201 on the campus.     

September 18th - Richland Friends will be celebrating 300 Years of   Quakers in Quakertown and are inviting the public to Quaker Heritage Day on September 18th from 10 AM- 5 PM on the Meetinghouse grounds located in Quakertown.  The day's events will include an art gallery, silent auction, local crafters, open hearth cooking and more.  For more information (215) 538-7555 or on their website.

September 19th - The Makaeya 5 K will be held on Sunday September 19th at Bicentennial Park located on Liberto Lane in Bethlehem. The Lehigh Valley Community Foundation has announced its creation of two online programs to assist donors and non-profit organizations. The Philanthropy Catalog of the Lehigh Valley is a listing of non-profit organizations that provides a link to their websites.  The catalog also provides donors with information about charitable giving and resources for checking on the charitable status of the organizations.  The catalog is available at their website.  

The DaVinci Science Center in Allentown is seeking volunteers to serve as exhibit educators to assist visitors with more than 200 hands-on exhibits. Volunteers should be effective communicators and enjoy working with people. The center is open 7 days a week. Training is held on site and all participants are required to have background clearances.
