For its15th year, the Philadelphia International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival has a new name. QFest is still the largest LGBT film festival on the East Coast, featuring over 100 films from July 9-20.

The South Side Film Festival presents foreign and independent films in its Third Thursday series.

 

 Classical Calendar   

The Allentown Band is offering three concerts coming up in July.

On Tuesday July 7th at 7:30 PM - the band will perform a concert entitled, "Tin Pan Alley", at West Park, 16th and Turner Street, in Allentown.

On Friday the 17th their program at West Park will be called "At the Movies" featuring popular film music. That concert also begins at 7:30pm

On Sunday July 19th the Allentown Band will perform at Haines Mill in Cetronia. The 6:30pm concert is sponsored by the Lehigh County Historical Society Bring lawn chairs. All these summer concerts are Free and open to the public. For directions and more information.

The Easton Municipal Band is in concert on Saturday, July 18th, at the Bethlehem Rose Garden Bandshell on West Union Blvd. between 8th. & 10th. Avenues in Bethlehem. The baton goes down at 7:30 PM.

The 4th Annual Great Guitarist Concert Series continues on Thursday, July 16th, with Frank DiBussolo and Howard Alden at the Macungie Institute. For more information about the 7 o'clock concert you can call: 610/967-9929.

Pennsylvania Sinfonia Orchestra presents the second installment of their Valley Vivaldi Summer Concert Series on Sunday, July 19th, at 7:30pm at Wesley United Methodist Church, 2540 Center Street in Bethlehem. The program will include Bach's Sonata in B for flute and harpsichord, Gallo's Trio Sonata in C, Vivaldi's Concerto in C and more.

The Green Show continues at the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival through August 2nd . 45 minutes prior to each evening performance at the Shakespeare Fesival a troupe of musicians and actors present a lively program of Renaissance music, dance and puppetry. The Green Show is Free and open to the public. You are invited to bring a picnic and enjoy the outdoor setting

 Youth Media Calendar   

Looking for some patriotic music to celebrate the 4th of July? Kids for America, featuring the Gilbert family, is at the Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley on July 2nd at 7 PM providing a variety of songs and dances supporting our troops. Admission free.

Canal boat rides are available from Noon to 4pm on July 3rd at Coplay Parkway. There is also a community block party, with food and rides, on Keifer St. between 2nd and Cherry streets in Coplay. The block party starts at 3pm and fireworks start at 9:45pm. Both events are free.

There are various performers and events for First Friday Bethlehem, on the night of July 3rd: Allentown puppeteer, street performer, and artist Yodi at Home and Planet; the fifth-anniversary party with the Blues Brotherhood at Looper's; Steve Brosky and Jimmy Meyers at Cleo's; and "Dog Days of Summer" paintings of canine characters by Maureen Monczewski, along with a reception for the artist, at Fox Optical.

The Kutztown Folk Festival will take place June 22-July 5 at the Kutztown Fairgrounds

Children entering grades 5 through 8 can experience cutting edge technology at Northampton Community College's hands-on summer courses. Apply 3D computer-aided design to create a pattern and use a laser cutter, rapid prototyper, and computer-controlled router to make something special in Fab Lab Intro, from 9:00am to noon July 6-10. Learn basic computer programming skills in Computer Programming for Animation, from 1-4pm July 13-24. There is a fee for each class. To register, 877-543-0998.

Lehigh Carbon Community College is holding a KIDFIT program with cooking classes. Participants will learn to make healthy snacks. Classes are open to children in kindergarten through 5th grade; parents and guardians will be held at the Schnecksville campus. Cedar Crest College will be hosting creative writing workshops this summer for high school students. The programs will be held between July 13 and 17, from 9am to noon. A summer day camp for kids is coming up July 27-31. Young people making peace is a summer day camp filled with five mornings of stories, songs, games, crafts, and learning activities related to the broad topic of peace and justice. The exhibit, "Abraham Lincoln: A Man for His Time, A Man for All Times celebrates the 200th birthday of our country's 16th president. Carbon Lehigh Unit 21 is offering driver education theory classes and behind the wheel training for qualified high school students beginning July 20. The Da Vinci Science Center is hosting "The Body Carnival," through Sept. 5. The exhibits feature The Tunnel Of Blood, and the Sound Cushion to challenge the senses of both your child and you. Throughout July and August, many musical artists will be performing at nearby venues. Green Day and The Bravery will perform on July 21 at the Wachovia Center. The Dave Matthews Band will play July 24 at Hershey Park.

Be a "star" at the Star Cross Youth Performing Arts Inc., where there will be Drum and Bugle Corps, Winter Percussion, Winter Guard, and a Rock String Ensemble. On July 10th the Downtown Bethlehem Association will present a screening of the 1942 Warner Brothers film classic Casablanca at the Sun Inn Courtyard. The screening will begin at approximately 9:30 PM. Film fans are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair and to arrive early, as several surprises will be presented by the DBA. Several downtown merchants will be present with themed entertainment and refreshments will be available. The Sun Inn Courtyard is located at 556 Main Street in Historic Bethlehem.

June 27th Zion Wesleyan Church will be holding a yard sale from 8 AM- 4 PM at which point the sale will close with an auction. A wide variety of items will be available. Also on June 27th at College Hill Moravian Church located at 11 West Laurel Street in Bethlehem there will be an all you can eat Italian dinner from 5-7:30 PM. The event highlights the efforts of Gayle Hendricks, a Bethlehem woman who will be participating in upcoming walks for breast cancer. This year she will be walking 100 miles for breast cancer research. The dinner will include several types of pasta, desserts, crafts, baked goods, and games and prizes for children.

Kick off summer in style by experiencing all that Downtown Bethlehem has to offer during Restaurant Week from June 21st – June 27th. The 3rd Annual Restaurant week will delight palates as over 15 restaurants in downtown Bethlehem offer fixed menu prices for lunch and dinner. At participating restaurants featured mixed drinks will also be available.

Bethany Wesleyan Church located at 675 Blue Mountain Drive in Cherryville is holding a GIANT Yard Sale to support their mission trips from July 3rd-July 4th from 8 AM- 4 PM. The State Theatre of Easton will be presenting their 7th Annual Summer Acting Camp- Entitled “The Spotlight Is On You” from July 13th – July 25th. The two-week course is designed to include an educationally based yet fun-filled theatre experience. There will be three daily classes that will focus on acting, music, and dance.
